A hospitable and restful land, the current municipality of Pilar de la Horadada (Alicante \u2013 Spain), was in Roman times a well-known route for travelers who traveled from the Mediterranean coast to Rome. Thiar, as the Romans called this town between Ilici (Elche) and Cartago Nova (Cartagena), also had a rich coastline where ships fished; as a strategic coastal enclave, it attracted the interest of pirates. Hence, the municipality will have several watchtowers that are still preserved. One of them: ‘Torre Horadada’; Named for the holes that connected the different levels of its construction and that allowed better communication between the different lookouts deployed in them.<\/p>\n

Today, Pilar de la Horadada maintains part of its history within the walls of its Gratiniano Baches Municipal Archaeological-Ethnological Museum. Visit it or wander around looking for the church of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Pilar and the church of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Asunci\u00f3n or take a pleasant coastal walk until you reach the Torre Vig\u00eda, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).<\/p>\n
